The CERAS – Study and Recovery Centre of Wild Animals, in Castelo Branco, sometimes receives injured or poisoned animals that eventually die or have to be euthanised. After the autopsy, the heads of these animals are frozen and used for interns and volunteers to become familiar with local species in order to later identify the species in various states of development.
